P.E. Physical Education

New Curriculum for Physical Education 2014

Welcome to our P.E page.

Each year group ensures that children get at least 2 hours of physical education per week, not only does this help with their physical well being but it helps to build on their own confidence and encourages team work throughout.

This year we will be considering swimming lessons for children from year 6. The lessons usually happen over a 2 week block which helps to keep the children on track and each lesson fresh in their minds.

Here at Oakfield we are proud offer children a wide range of clubs, competitions and sports activities both within and outside of school. We take part in many of the Schools Games competitions and for our participation in both Inter and Intra school games competitions we hold the Bronze school games award.

We have a fantastic partnership with The Widnes Vikings and as part of that partnership, a member of the schools team visits each week to work with a year group for the afternoon. They carry out sessions that include rugby skills, multi skills sessions and healthy attitudes.

We also have a partnership with the Beth Tweddle Gymnastics association. A qualified gymnastics teacher comes in each week to teach children from years 1, 2 and 3 on a termly basis. This has been enjoyed by all children who have taken part over the past year.

We also provide opportunities for classes to take part in Judo and archery lesson which are led by outside agencies with whom we have strong links with that have been built up over many years.

This year we are looking forward to taking part in competitions involving hockey, table tennis, Kwik cricket and Town sports which involves a range of athletic activities.

We recently invested in an archery set for use within our PE lessons as the children showed such an interest in the sport following an after school club that was held during October. We also encourage lessons that involve a range of different sports that can be found as part of the school games program which include: New age curling, table tennis and Tri-Golf which the children have loved experiencing.

All children enjoy being outside and this plays a huge part in their development, children are able to practice skills they have learnt, challenge themselves to balance on our trim trail or simply play their own competitive games with friends - we are proud of our outdoor areas and we know that the children appreciate and enjoy them too.
