Welcome to Nursery!

Spring Term 2019

The class teacher is Miss Daniels who is supported by Mrs Coneeny, our teaching assistant.

The children will be learning through fun and play based activities. These activities fall into 7 areas of learning for the Early Years Foundation Stage. These are;

Personal, Emotional and Social Development

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts

This half term our topic will be 'Superheroes' and then after the May half term we will begin our new topic 'On the Farm '

We have a number of activities planned for the children that we will teach through our narrative immersion planning. This allows children to be immersed in the story that we focus on and fully engage in all topics that we link to the text.

The main text we will be focusing on within this half term is 'Mighty Small' by Timothy Knapman, a story of a mouse who realises that there is no size limit on being a superhero. We will use this text to work on our character description and our ability to sequence and retell stories. We will also be thinking about our own talents and what makes us super!

We also aim to link our text within our mathematics teaching. This half term we will continue to look at our recognition of numbers and how this links to quantity. We will begin to look at one more and one less than a given number and we may even find that Max the mouse has hidden our capes. The only way to get them back will be to follow the number clues!

Important Information

The children will get a piece of fruit and milk or water during snack time and this comes at no cost.

P.E is on a Friday for both Nursery 1 and Nursery 2. Please ensure that your child has a P.E kit in school (white top, blue shorts and pumps will be needed weekly).

Book loan is on a Friday and we ask that you collect your child 15 minutes earlier so that you can join your child in choosing their book for the week. The class teacher will confirm when this will start.

Please make sure that all of your child's clothing is clearly labelled (including their coats).

In Nursery we play outside daily and in all weather, so we ask that you provide your child with the appropriate outdoor clothing and suitable footwear.

Please feel free to come and speak with any of us in Nursery about anything you need. We look forwards to working with you and your child for the remainder of the school year!
